Robert Barnett co-founded an entrepreneurial education and mentoring program for students in his hometown after returning from six years in the US Air Force. Now seeking an agrarian lifestyle, he is learning how to manage a diversified farm, currently interning for Alpacas at Windy Hill Ranch in Somis, CA. There he’s practicing handling, proper nutrition, and healthcare – learning from an award-winning alpaca breeder.
Robert is already a certified permaculture designer thanks to a veteran scholarship provided by East End Eden in Ojai, CA. Robert has multiple service-connected disabilities including impaired movement due to chronic inflammation disease, but is committed to a new mission: starting a family-run health retreat and value-added products incubator on his food, fibre and medicine farm.
I’m grateful to VFA for introducing me to Cindy and her alpacas. She’s an incredible wealth of knowledge. The relaxed pace of alpaca ranching and processing is the perfect fit for my family’s needs. After this internship I’ll be confident enough to purchase my own herd for putting on pasture somewhere.
Thank you Julie for all your effort.
